Terrorism – An Old Problem for a New Century

The War On Terror
Terrorism is as old as humanity; asymmetric warfare has always been about turning your enemy’s weakness to your advantage; but it took 9/11 to turn the West’s approach to terrorism from “an acceptable level of violence” into a global campaign to defeat it.  Now, enormous resources are brought to bear on defeating terrorists and denying them success, largely with mixed results.  Unlike nation-on-nation conflicts of the last century, today’s security and defence forces are not always as well poised as they could be to deal with a threat without a clear enemy, defined borders or obvious targets.  For the terrorist, networks, personnel, property, ideology, profit and a sense of security – emotions and feelings themselves - are all targets.  Inzpire experts have spent decades engaged in counter-terrorism operations around the globe, technically, ideologically and kinetically.  We have a deep understanding of the mind, the motivation, and the methods of the terrorist and we appreciate, that the long-term solution to terrorism is not primarily a military one.

Anti-Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism
Anti-Terrorism is those measures, usually passive, that are meant to reduce the vulnerabilities to the public, their families, and communities to terrorist acts, for example airport security procedures. Counter-Terrorism typically refers to offensive measures taken to respond to terrorist acts such as the gathering of information, threat analysis and denial or destruction.  Both of these approaches are enormously relevant to commercial organisations as well as armed forces – as most terrorist victims are civilian “soft targets”. Inzpire is expert in all aspects of the anti- and counter-terrorism spectrum. We have to be, because a successful approach has to take account of all the complementary tactics available.

The Inzpire Approach – The Terrorism Red Team
The threat of terrorism stems from the speed at which terrorists adapt their tactics to survive.  Inzpire delivers you the ability to adapt faster.  Our Terrorism Red Team (TRT) draws on a huge range of expertise to develop flexible, comprehensive and uniquely effective counters to terrorist action.  We think and operate in a similar style to terrorist cells in order to deliver effective, highly-agile, and quick-to-market advice designed to defeat, disrupt and destroy any terrorist threat. 

Our team draws on our frontline experts from the ISTAR, UAVs, Rotary, NEC, Special Forces (SAS and SBS), Explosives, Police (C019) and Intelligence communities, who are supported by psychologist support from our Human Factors area, computer modelling from the Software team, and insight from our Operational Analysis specialists.

Scarce Specialist Knowledge
Governments, companies and individuals all pay a high price for terrorism.  But much can be done to minimise the disruption caused to many businesses by adopting sensible, streamlined and tailored tactics.  For example, in the events immediately following the attack on the first of the twin towers on 9/11, almost all financial services firm Morgan Stanley’s 2700 personnel were evacuated prior to the attack on the second tower thanks to the detailed pre-planning and personal bravery of ex-British and American soldier Rick Rescorla who sadly died in the subsequent collapse. 

Many of our experts have recent experience in combating terrorism in asymmetric wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as domestic counter-terrorism within Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  Two of our principal consultants were also part of the team that demonstrated rotary wing counter-terrorism tactics for the Central Intelligence Agency and have spent thousands of hours refining these techniques on real operations.
