Fast Jet Operations – The Sharp Teeth of Air Power

Delivering Kinetic Effect
Despite all recent advances in UAVs and ISTAR, fast jets remain at the core of most military aviation capabilities. It is fast jets that normally bear the burden of tactical operations to defeat the enemy. In particular, it is fast jets that are usually tasked with establishing air superiority and with degrading enemy IADs and SAM systems. Fast jet fighter-bombers also take the lion’s share of employing air to ground ordnance in a variety of roles, particularly in support of troops in contact with the enemy on the ground.

Crucial Knowledge
While fast jet operations have no direct parallel in civilian life, the knowledge of how fast jet operations are conducted, and of what really matters in a fast jet cockpit, is vital expertise sought by defence manufacturers. Inzpire Ltd is experienced in assisting its commercial customers to truly understand the context of military air operations. It is only through the understanding of this vital context that meaningful cockpit, sensor and weapon design can be achieved.

Extensive Experience
Inzpire Ltd has enormous fast jet experience. Our pilots/WSOs are all of QWI/AWI/FWI (tactics instructor grade) standard. They are professional trainers who have been responsible for setting and maintaining the high standards expected by modern combat pilots. Inzpire aviators have been personally involved in the execution of a wealth of air power roles - including CAS, AI, SEAD/DEAD, DCA, OCA, Maritime Attack and CSAR. They have experience of operating all modern platforms such as Mirage 2000, F-16, F-18, F-15, Typhoon and Tornado GR4. Many have operational experience in recent conflicts and a substantial proportion have flown exchange tours with foreign air forces such as those of the USA, Canada, Australia and France.

Areas of Particular Expertise
The Inzpire team have expertise in the following specific areas:

• Detailed knowledge of the following missions: DCA, OCA, SEAD, AI, CAS, TST, CSAR/JPR and Maritime Attack
• Experience of operating a variety of aircraft types including Tornado GR-4 and F-3, Harrier/AV-8B , F-15, F-14, F-16 and F-18
• Understanding of how air forces in the UK, USA, NATO, France, Australia, and Canada operate
• Appreciation of the capabilities and limitations of threat airforces
• Knowledge of the capabilities and key issues for a plethora of weapons such as AMRAAM, ASRAAM, ALARM, STORMSHADOW, BRIMSTONE and many others (although Inzpire never discusses or discloses information that was acquired in confidence)
• Understanding of the performance of modern sensors such as targeting pods, Missile Approach Warners, IRSTs, AI radars, SAR and EO devices
• Expertise in night operations using NVGs and FLIR
• Experience in the C4 aspects underlying fast-jet operations, including understanding the operations of CAOCs and the interfaces between fast-jets, ISTAR/UAVs and support assets such as AAR
• Experience of the ATO and targeting cycles and of the operation of Airspace Control Measures
• Knowledge of and understanding of the implications of air-to-air and air-to-surface ROEs
• Knowledge of the applicability, strengths and weaknesses of synthetic environments when used for military aircrew training
• Scenario generation and requirements capture for wargaming
• Cockpit HMI issues and equipment design
• Training and assessing aircrew (both at Squadron and OCU level) and development of aircrew training syllabi
