The
Military Context
As laid out by the joint warfare publication regarding intelligence
support to joint operations, successful operations are founded on effective
intelligence. Intelligence staffs, supported by collection and processing
capabilities, comprise an essential component in the delivery of the required
levels of situational awareness, which in turn enables effective decision making.
The essence of effective intelligence is to attribute meaning to information. Even single, apparently irrelevant facts, when considered in the context of the wider operation, and fused with information already known, can be fundamental to the analytical process that leads to true “intelligence”. This is as relevant to the military as it is to any organisation.
Key to this process is having well trained intelligence personnel, understanding each element of the intelligence cycle and, finally, ensuring that every last resource assists and complements the intelligence process to best effect. Inzpire personnel are expert in all these areas.
The Civilian Role
The applications of intelligence techniques to the civilian marketplace are
enormous. Most obvious of these is the use of intelligence to support Government
decision making in the global war on terrorism. However, intelligence techniques
are also used by the Police (fighting all types of crime), the HMRC (tax evasion
and smuggling), the DHSS (benefit fraud) and even the TV licensing authority.
Furthermore, business intelligence is an increasingly expanding field as companies
seek to gather crucial information of competitors and markets. Whether, you
