Operational Analysis – The Science of “Better”

The Science of Better
Operational Analysis uses mathematical models and the power of computers to find more efficient and effective ways of conducting military operations. In this sense, it is the “science of better”. Military operational analysts use advanced statistics, optimisation mathematics, queueing theory, forecasting, game theory, graph theory, network analysis and simulation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of military operations. Since its genesis in World War II, Military Operational Analysis has informed many important military decisions, ranging from the establishing the ideal convoy size in the Battle of the Atlantic to modern decisions about the cost effective way to engage enemy land targets in the battlespace.

Civilian Operational Research
Known as Operational Research (or Management Science) in the civilian sector, Operational Analysis is helping time starved executives make better decisions with less risk in virtually every kind of organization: large and small, private and public, for-profit and not-for-profit.  Operational Analysts are unlocking the hidden value in data, are modeling complex systems, and are enabling better decisions to be made - thus improving both high-level strategy and day-to-day operations. Many of the challenges facing organizations today are perfectly suited to the power of Operational Research.
