Chris
Wright – Principal Consultant Synthetic
Training
Chris trained as an Imagery Analyst in 1995 and was posted to the Joint Air
Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre (JARIC) producing imagery intelligence
on surface-to-air missile systems and bomb damage assessments for air operations
over Iraq.
He was posted to Number 3 (Fighter) Squadron in 1996 as the Squadron Intelligence
Officer. The squadron aircraft were versatile Harrier GR7 and he deployed
on operations in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, Kosovo and Iraq. He
was active in the development of the Harrier GR7 Mission Support Cell and
led the fusion of Royal Navy intelligence with Royal Air Force operational
intelligence aboard HMS Illustrious during operations in the Northern Arabian
Gulf.
As the Station Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Officer at Royal Air Force Leeming he was the Intelligence Officer to the Station Commander, Station Executives and associated units, dealing with current operational, national and international events. This included operations in the Balkans, the Middle East and national events such as a foot and mouth outbreak and a fuel tanker strike.
In 2001, he deployed as the Air Intelligence Officer for the Thumrait Base Commander during Exercise SAIF SAREEA II in Oman. After the terrorist attacks in the USA on 11 September 2001, he assumed the duties of Air Component Intelligence Officer during the first phase of Operations ORACLE and VERITAS – developing and sustaining a crucial relationship with United States forces deployed to Oman in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In the same year, Chris was posted to train Royal Air Force (RAF) officers at the RAF College Cranwell. The role encompassed all aspects of leadership and management development, including skills development, evaluations, mentoring and welfare. In a pivotal executive position during a very busy period of change, he was at the forefront of successfully implementing a new training ethos of transformational leadership.
During his tour at RAFC Cranwell, Chris deployed as a squadron intelligence officer supporting Tornado GR4 aircraft tasking for Operation TELIC. In 2004, he deployed to the UK Air Component Headquarters within the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Division. He provided regular and bespoke intelligence products to the UK Air Component Commander, deployed operating bases and Permanent Joint Headquarters.
On his return from operations in 2004, he was posted as SO3 Readiness for the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Intelligence Reserves where he developed and delivered ab-initio and specialist training for squadron personnel. During a demanding period of operational activity he ensured Reservists were qualified to be deployed as Intelligence Officers. He also assessed regular RAF Intelligence Officers during the Joint Air Intelligence Course and evaluated RAF unit intelligence cells as a member of the Standards and Evaluation team.
