Dave Wood - Principal Consultant
Fast Jets 
An air-to-ground weapons and tactics specialist, Dave Wood was sponsored
through university by the RAF and graduated in 1989. Following training,
he joined his first squadron flying the Tornado GR1 and GR1A in both the
attack and reconnaissance roles. His next tour was as an instructor
on XV(R) Sqn at Lossiemouth during which he graduated from the Qualified
Weapons Instructor (QWI) Course winning the prize for best overall student,
in addition to jointly winning the best crew prize with his navigator. A
tour on IX(B) Sqn as the QWI, which included the introduction of the Tornado
GR4 into frontline operational service, preceded a 4-month stint in the coalition
HQ in Riyadh overseeing coalition targeting operations prior to a further
tour on XIII Sqn as a flight commander which involved many sorties utilizing
NVGs and FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) in the night role.
Dave has over 2000hrs flying the Tornado GR1 and GR4; unfortunately his number of take-offs does not equal his number of landings as he ejected from a Tornado GR4 in 2002 following a catastrophic aircraft fire that rendered control of the aircraft impossible! He has flown many operational missions both over the Middle East and the Former Yugoslavia, often leading large international packages of aircraft, and he was awarded a Mention in Dispatches for gallantry.
His final tour was at HQ 1 Group at RAF High Wycombe where he gained considerable experience in the latest air-to-ground weapons technologies and was instrumental in enabling Brimstone and Stormshadow to achieve FOC (Final Operational Capability) standard. In addition, he maintained front-line responsibility for legacy air-to-ground weapons (including PGMs, ALARM, 27mm gun, CRV-7 and 1000lb bombs), laser designators (including Litening and TIALD pods) and tactical reconnaissance systems.
