Jamie Harms - Principal Consultant Maritime Air
Jamie Harms joined the Royal Navy in 1990 as a helicopter pilot.  He flew the Sea King MkVI in the Anti Submarine Warfare Role during Operation Deliberate Force in Bosnia.  After a short first tour, Jamie was selected for a fast jet conversion which he successfully completed in 1994.  He joined 801 Squadron to fly the FA2 variant of the Sea Harrier, serving all over the world and in many operational theatres as an Electronic Warfare Officer and Air Defence specialist. During this time, Jamie qualified as a Royal Navy Commando and saw action on the ground as a United Nations Observer and independent advisor to several foreign nations.

Jamie was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal for service ‘above and beyond’ to the United States Marine Corps and his efforts were also recognised by the award of the coveted Phillip Hallam Trophy awarded to the best Sea Harrier Pilot of the Year. Jamie was able to use his diverse experience to enrich the training and development of fixed wing training for the Royal Navy at RAF Valley, where he was appointed as the Senior Navy Officer and qualified as an A2 Qualified Flying Instructor.  It was whilst at RAF Valley that Jamie was awarded a Commander-in-Chief’s Commendation for professionalism and contributions to the Service.

Since he left the Royal Navy in 2005, Jamie has been heavily involved in the design of the UK’s new Aircraft Carriers.  His operational and maritime expertise has been instrumental in managing the interface between the JCA variant and the CVF design.  Coupled with this status Jamie has been a Subject Matter Expert for the development of CVF’s Architecture Framework, developing CONOPS and leading experimentation projects throughout the defence industry.
