Kelly has joined our collective training division as a C2 and space subject matter expert.
Kelly grew up in East Yorkshire and completed a degree in Geography at the University of Hull.
Joining the RAF in 2004 and following Initial Officer Training she qualified as a Fighter Controller (Weapons). Her first appointment at Control and Reporting Centre Boulmer was quickly followed by an instructional role and the first of several deployments to Afghanistan on Op HERRICK with No1 Air Control Centre. Kelly remained with No1 Air Control Centre as a Fighter Allocator, Controller Training Officer and Deputy Squadron Commander.
In 2010, Kelly was assigned to Headquarters 12th Mechanized Brigade as the Training Officer, responsible for preparing the Brigade for deployment on Op HERRICK 16. She deployed with the headquarters in 2012 as the Task Force Helmand Consequence Management Officer, for which she was appointed MBE in the 2013 Operational Honours List.
Promoted to Squadron Leader in 2012, Kelly was seconded to the Civil Aviation Authority as a military specialist; managing surveillance and spectrum issues for the UK and Europe. She had input to several projects including wind farm impact to civil aviation, UK Future Surveillance Strategy and electronic conspicuity in UK airspace.
In 2014, Kelly was reassigned to No1 Air Control Centre as a Squadron Commander and Executive Officer which required a qualification upgrade to Master Controller. In 2015, Kelly led the UK contingent assigned to KINGPIN Command and Control Centre in support of Ops KIPION and SHADER. Subsequently, she then led the initial deployment of the No1 Air Control Centre mobile radar in support of Op SHADER in 2016.
Following a short period as Deputy Personal Staff Officer to Chief of the Air Staff, Kelly was assigned to the Air Battlespace Training Centre at RAF Waddington as the Executive Officer. Promoted to Wing Commander in 2017, Kelly joined the Strategic Force Development Team in Air Capability at Headquarters Air Command and focused on Space wargaming and RAF Innovation.
Kelly is married to Martin and their toddler daughter, Greta, keeps them on their toes. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys triathlon, running, travelling and shoe shopping!
