The Role
Inzpire’s Mission Training Devices (MTD) Division contains passionate engineers who possess both a deep found love for technology and a thirst to tackle difficult problems. Within MTD we exploit the latest simulation technology to deliver platforms that are focused on the training objectives our customers want to achieve. We combine commercial-off-the-shelf technology with purpose-built hardware and software to ensure that the training experience is second to none. Whether it is landing a heavily laden helicopter in a dusty environment, or a soldier calling in close air support whilst under effective enemy fire, MTD provide realistic simulators that allow operators to train and hone their skills.
Whilst MTD’s primary focus is on simulation, we also support the wider Inzpire team through the creation of bespoke software applications across multiple stacks to support high-end training.
We are looking for expressions of interest from talented, creative software “savvy” developers to support scenario development and 3D modelling in Bohemia Interactive Solutions Virtual Battlespace software for potential future roles within Inzpire’s MTD Division. As a scenario developer and/or 3D model developer you would be involved in the development of simulation scenarios, models and environments for use in synthetic training.
The role will involve the design and development of vignettes based on operational scenarios relating to defence. We are particularly interested in someone who is ex-military with extensive fires and/or intelligence background. Understanding of the VBS development toolset would be beneficial but is not considered essential as training could be provided. The VBS model has been developed over the course of previous programmes and will be enhanced by the candidate to demonstrate innovative capabilities in threat environments.
In this role you will:
- Implement and demonstrate scenarios in a VBS 4 model.
- Support the development of current and future systems architectures/designs and their implementation.
- Support the creation of simulation training environments including Entity and Terrain modelling (VBS 4).
- Design and develop vignettes relating to defence training.
- Provide in-field tech support and mentoring.
- Liaise with training staff and the end-user to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
- Support MTD simulation projects and software developers with domain knowledge and skills.
- Mentor and help grow the junior team members.
The potential role is a hybrid position with regular travel to Farnborough. As a team we operate remotely but do have the opportunity for occasional travel to support our various simulators both within the UK and abroad.
The Person
Being a VBS Scenario Developer/3D modeller will require:
- Experience of the VBS development toolset.
- Passion for new tech and its use in developing engaging learning environments.
- Comprehensive and broad knowledge in building modern LVC simulation solutions and their associated architectures.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as C++, C#, Java etc.
- Knowledge of distributed simulation standards protocols HLA, DIS.
- Good understanding of military communications, datalinks and interfaces.
- Good understanding of 3D modelling, content pipelines, shaders, animation and real time rendering.
- Experience in the use of Unity, Unreal Engine, VBS or similar engine expertise.
- A curious tech-oriented mindset that is open to change.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to speak in detail about our offerings.
- Flexibility to work on various technology domains across the development lifecycle.
- Ability to work both independently and with teams.
- Willingness to learn and share new knowledge and skills.
