The Role

Our award-winning mission systems team designs, develops and delivers some of the world’s most advanced military aviation mission support systems, from within our office in Lincoln.  As a result of our continued success and business expansion we are delighted to offer a systems security engineering opportunity to support the on-going development of our bespoke mission systems.

Working directly for the safety and security technical authority, the main duties of the role will include:

• conducting security-risk analysis on company-designed mission support systems, including mission planning systems and tablet-based obstacle warning, navigation, and electronic flight bag products;
• the maintenance and production of information assurance documentation, including security management plans, risk management and accreditation document sets, security operating procedures and security assurance cases;
• the design of secure in-house and client system architectures utilising good practice guidelines (e.g. NCSC and NIST);
• reviewing, updating, and producing mission systems information security policies and guidance material to ensure compliance with adopted standards and customer information security requirements (e.g. ISO 27000-series, HMG Security Policy Framework, MOD Def Stan 05-138, and Joint Service Procedure 440/604);
• assisting with engineering tasks including the creation of product security-related deliverables, configuration and testing of production systems and assisting field support representatives;
• providing information security advice to system design engineers.
• assisting with new project business development activities including the provision of cost estimates for security-related tasking.

The post is primarily based in Lincoln, but the successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel to other sites within the UK. A full UK driver’s licence is therefore essential.  Providing the responsibilities of the role are delivered, the incumbent will have considerable freedom to work in accordance with their own discretion and the company’s best interests.

The Person

You will have extensive experience in the field of information security and must be motivated by the challenge of analysing complex systems to identify and control security risks.  However, as a member of a small highly skilled team the responsibilities of the role will necessarily be broad, and you should be prepared to undertake tasking that is beyond your core specialisation.

• demonstrate a desire to develop professionally.

Qualifications and experience:

• A degree in an engineering subject (e.g. systems engineering, electronics engineering, software engineering), cyber security or information technology would be beneficial; however, sufficient experience working within the field of information security will be considered.

Skills:

Essential

• Knowledge of ISO 27000-series, current National Cyber Security Centre risk management principles or HMG Information Assurance Standards 1 & 2.
• An understanding of how information security considerations should influence system design (hardware and software).
• Knowledge of current information security management principles, ideally within the defence sector.
• Experience in preparing system risk management accreditation document sets and system security operating procedures.

Desirable

• Experience of defining and assuring system firewall rules.
• Experience of working with software intensive systems, including use of static application security testing tools.
• Experience of using system information and event management (SIEM) technology.
• Knowledge and experience of stakeholder management within the defence sector (e.g. system accreditors).

Due to the nature of elements of the role, the successful applicant must be a UK National and may be required to successfully complete National Security Vetting which may require criminal record, security service and credit reference checks; qualification will also normally require a minimum UK residency of at least 5 years.
