We're delighted to welcome David Colman to Inzpire as a compliance and assurance specialist following 36 years in the Royal Air Force.
Throughout his time in service, David worked in many different engineering environments and was associated with multiple aircrafts and their support. He also spent a short stint out of trade as a station community support officer during the closure of RAF Cottesmore. He completed 16 postings, which included two at RAF Laarbruch in Germany.
During his military career, David was deployed on the following operations: Banner, Granby, Joint Guardian, Veritas, Herrick and Kipion; he also had the pleasure of visiting the Falkland Islands several times.
He experienced his most diverse working environments during his second tour on 1(F) Squadron, where as part of the Harrier Force, they operated from a hide in a forest. Camping in the desert was also deemed necessary with a quick change of scene to carrier-borne operations. As a result, he quickly learned how to adapt and perform in various conditions.
David’s career highlights include representing the RAF in his chosen sport, badminton, at the Inter Service Competition, attaining a winner’s medal and RAF colours. He gained Incorporated Engineer status with The Institution of Engineering and Technology, a massive personal achievement after leaving school with a handful of CSE’s. He was also part of the management team that successfully drew 8 Sqn down whilst supporting the Chilean delegation in the handover of the aircraft and training of personnel.
David’s passion for engineering is reflected through his role as a STEM ambassador, where he volunteers his time to support local children in pursuit of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects. He looks forward to representing Inzpire in this capacity during future STEM events.
David enjoys classic car restoration and currently own a 1966 Mk2 Triumph Spitfire which he takes to public events to fully showcase his artisan skills.
