We recently sat down with our Cyber Exercise Planner, Clare Foster, to chat about her time at Inzpire since joining us in January 2023!
Tell us a bit more about your role
My role has a couple of strands which keeps things varied! I work on exercise design and delivery, as well as creating cyber products either to assist contracts or the cyber training academy. Since joining Inzpire, I’ve been to Google London and Media City in Salford. I’ve also been invited to the BT Tower for the announcement of the winners of the Most Inspirational Women in Cyber 2025.
What do you like most about working at Inzpire?
Inzpire helps me balance family life. By being a remote worker, I benefit from managing my own diary to an extent with minimal trips away to customer sites when required. I can manage the school run and not have to pay for school breakfast clubs, which allows me the freedom to plan my day and work a full-time job, without the childcare fees.
During summer, I can enjoy sitting out in the garden on my breaks or working out in our garage gym – there’s no excuse for forgetting kit! I can also walk my dog and let him out in the garden throughout the day; without flexible working, we couldn’t have a dog at all.
On the days where we have clubs in the evenings, I can get dinner going in the slow cooker during the day to be one step ahead when everyone else gets home. I can also attend sessions put on for parents in the working day (why?!) to see my children in action at school. I’m very fortunate to be able to attend, whereas I couldn’t if I worked in an office 9-5.
What does a day in the life look like for you in your role?
It depends which projects or initiatives I am working on, but a typical day at the moment has been being creative and innovative, both visually and with content. When completing work for SANS UK Cyber Team, we provided players with individual feedback on their soft skills performance. I decided this was best visually represented on one page, in words, pictures and diagrams with a smidge of fun by allocating a digital badge as either an ‘emerging talent’’, ‘consistent contributor’ or ‘high performer’. We used quantitative and qualitative data to form positive areas for growth. I’ve recently attended the SANS UK Cyber Team Capture the Flag Live Final and subsequent training day.
I’m working on developing the cyber training academy and cyber security pathway, based upon market needs, team skills and putting my new instructional design qualifications to good use. With a background including the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), learning about other instructional design techniques such as ADDIE and SAM meant I can adapt our training design and user experience design to the customer requirements.
What made you choose Inzpire?
The company values, remote working and being allowed room for thought and innovation.
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Inzpire?
Being shortlisted for the most inspiring women in cyber award 2025 is definitely one. Also, seeing projects with my ideas and work incorporated being used for example the soft skills assessment rubric being used by 30 assessors from across industry at the SANS UK Cyber Team Live Final.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about applying for a role at Inzpire?
Everyone has unique skills and backgrounds which all contribute in their own way. When we work on a task, we call in all these skills to ensure we get the best outcome; no one is left out and everyone is valued.
