Andy has joined our collective training team as an intelligence subject matter expert.
Andy served 42 years in the Royal Air Force in the Intelligence Branch and Trade, as a Radio Operator/Intelligence Analyst and then Air Intelligence Officer. During his long military career, his roles included being a Signals Intelligence intercept operator, analyst and reporter before commissioning into the Intelligence Branch in 2002. During his time as an Int Officer, Andy worked with various Airframes, including the GR-7/9 Harrier, E-3D Sentry, Nimrod R1, C-130 Hercules, CH-47 Chinook and the AH-64D Apache.
During his early career, he was stationed at RAF Digby and completed two overseas tours at 9 Signal Regt in Cyprus, with deployments to, Berlin, the Falklands and Bosnia. Once commissioned, his first tour was to RAF Wittering, where he worked closely with the Harrier OCU and became the de-facto IntO to 37 Sqn, an RAF Regiment R1 Rapier Sqn. An E-3D Sqn IntO tour followed on 23 Sqn, supporting crews on Op HARMARLA and a raft of NATO exercises. A command tour at 591SU as OC of the Defensive Monitoring Communications flight followed at RAF Digby before returning to RAF Waddington, where he worked in various roles as the Air Intelligence Centre (AIC) Adjutant, HQ Int Reserves Staff Officer and AIC MENA desk lead.
Three tours of Afghanistan saw him provide Op Int support to Apache/Chinook crews as well as the C-130 fleet, and finally the USMC at Camp Leatherneck as the RC(SW) ISR Assessments Officer.
Andy’s final 5 years of service have been mainly overseas, as the Stn Int Officer at RAF Akrotiri and NATO Staff Officer at HQ Land Command, Izmir, Turkey. He returned to the UK last year as a Staff Officer in the 1 Group ISTAR FHQ at RAF Waddington.
When not at home with his wife Lynn or visiting his two granddaughters, Andy is a keen golfer and likes to keep fit in his spare time.
