We are delighted to welcome Helen Verney to our training services team.
Helen joins us as a training services manager.
Helen qualified as secondary school teacher in PE and Maths after completing a BSc in Sports Science and a PGCE straight from school. After teaching for a couple of years she decided she needed more of a challenge and joined the RAF back in 2000, initially hoping to be a physical education officer but ending up as a navigator.
Helen started her flying career on the Tornado GR4 on IX Sqn at RAF Marham and then went onto the VC10 on 10/101Sqn at RAF Brize Norton. A keen sports person from a young age Helen continued to play rugby for the RAF; however a few sports injuries unfortunately led to a reduced medical category, stopping her flying.
Finding herself needing to change career, Helen went back to her roots and became a training officer for the second half of her 16-year career in the RAF. During this time she worked in many roles including spending time with the parachute training school at RAF Brize Norton and special forces helicopters crews at RAF Odiham as a training consultant. Helen worked at the Flying Training School HQ as a consultant and instructor on the FTS courses, as well as working on developing, delivering and managing human factors training for aircrew instructors and the tri-service human factors facilitation courses at RAF Cranwell.
In her last post before exiting the RAF in 2016 Helen was appointed the deputy project pfficer for a large multi-million pound runway resurfacing project at RAF Waddington, where she enabled the dispersal of all assets and the smooth continuation of all operations.
Since leaving the RAF Helen has worked as a primary school teacher, set up and run her own sport and remedial massage therapy business and launched herself as a singer performing mostly classical and musical theatre. Helen has performed at various functions, most notably opening for the York Proms in 2019.
Helen lives in south Lincolnshire, has two young boys that keep her on her toes and when she gets time she likes to get out walking, cycling etc as well as singing and painting to relax.
Welcome to Inzpire, Helen!
