We are delighted to welcome Russ Windle to the ever-growing Inzpire family.
Russ joins our mission systems team as a systems engineer after a distinguished 22-year-long career in the RAF.
Russ initially joined the RAF as an avionics tchnician in November 1996, which set him up for an extensive and varied career working on a number of different aircraft and equipment types. Russ began his career as a flight line mechanic on the Tornado GR4 at RAF Cottesmore, followed by a short stint working as an avionics mechanic on the Harrier GR7.
After completing further trade training Russ was posted to RAF Waddington to the Special Role Equipment Bay carrying out second and third line maintenance on the mission system equipment on 51 Squadron's fleet of Nimrod R1 aircraft. Promotion led to a successful posting into the Nimrod R Software Team as a programmer/analyst which only ended due to the aircraft leaving service. A move to 5(AC) Sqn and the Sentinel R1 to work as an avionics technician was quickly followed by promotion and a change of role becoming the Avionics Team Leader. In the final 5 years of his career he re-mustered into the Aircraft Ground Engineer branch, staying on the Sentinel R1, eventually becoming the senior aircraft ground engineer before leaving the service in 2019.
During his time at RAF Waddington, Russ completed a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering part-time at Sheffield Hallam University, became a qualified and licenced FA football coach and deployed to many different locations around the world, from Oman (many, many times) to Las Vegas (twice) and quite a few places in-between, in support of both operations and exercises. Russ comments that his career highlight was being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in the Queens’ Birthday Honours list of 2018.
Since leaving the RAF in 2019 Russ has been working as the engineering and maintenance manager for an industrial laundry company in Doncaster.
Married to Michelle for 21 years, Russ has 3 children, a dog and two Guinea Pigs! In his spare time he is a junior football coach and assistant manager for a local U18s team, enjoys going to the gym and on walks with the family.
Welcome to the team, Russ. It's wonderful to have you on board!
