It is our pleasure to welcome Simon Taylor to Inzpire’s Training Services Division.
Simon joins us as a senior software engineer and principal training consultant after completing 19 years’ service in the Royal Air Force.
Simon joined the RAF in 2003 as a physical training instructor and completed his first tour at RAF Leeming, including a deployment to Al Udeid, before starting training to become an exercise rehabilitation instructor at Headley Court. He completed a tour at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit, Cranwell whilst studying a part-time BSc in Sports Rehabilitation.
Prior to joining the RAF and throughout the first six years of service, Simon competed for Great Britain (GB) as a modern pentathlete. In 2010, he was granted Elite Athlete status with the offer to train full-time between 2010 and 2012, at the high-performance training centre at Bath University. During this time, he competed in several international competitions representing GB.
It was during this period that he also studied software development and began making web and mobile applications. This skillset continued to grow over the years and was honed further when he co-founded a successful digital exercise prescription software start-up.
Following promotion to sergeant, Simon was posted to the Military Corrective Training Centre, Colchester as a rehabilitation instructor (not a detainee!!). In 2013 his application to commission as a Medical Support Officer (MSO) in the RAF was accepted and he started training in October 2014, graduating the following year. He was then posted to the Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit, Portsmouth as the adjutant.
After completing a year as an MSO, the opportunity to transfer to become a training officer presented itself, along with a posting to RAF Waddington. Here, he was lucky enough to string together three tours at the same base, working as the station training officer, chief training development officer on 54 Squadron, and a final tour at the Air Battlespace Training Centre (ABTC) as the training development officer. The latter role saw him responsible for the training line of development for the distributed synthetic training capability, known as project GLADIATOR.
Alongside a military career, Simon completed a part-time MSc in Information Capability Management, graduating in 2021. He left the service in 2022 having completed a total of 19 years. He currently lives in Lincolnshire with his family but plans to move back to ‘Gods own County’ (Yorkshire) in the years to come. He continues to stay fit and enjoys road cycling, mountain biking and skiing.
Welcome to the Inzpire family Simon!
