The aim of this course is to train JFOs in providing a capability to exploit opportunities that exist in the operational environment where a trained observer can effectively support air-to-surface fires, surface-to-surface fires, and facilitate targeting whilst increasing their judgemental abilities.
Students will be taught the skills required to request, control, and adjust surface-to-surface fires and provide targeting information in support of close air support whilst performing terminal guidance operations. Students will develop a full knowledge of the weapon payloads of a range of close air support platforms and the characteristics of all air-to-ground weapons carried by them.
This course has been built around truly immersive and relevant scenarios where students must make judgements that achieve their mission aims. The course covers all joint mission essential task list areas and completing this course will ensure that the participating organisation will be ready to apply for inclusion on the Joint Fires Observers Memorandum of Agreement.
The course is aimed at individuals with pre-existing operational or mission-ready fire support exposure.
