This course aims to provide personnel within military, commercial or government bodies with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how space-based and space-enabled capabilities can support and benefit electronic warfare and intelligence, situational awareness and reconnaissance activities.
“Aerial forces menace all the territory comprised in their radius of action…they lend themselves to the offensive because they leave the adversary, until the last moment, in uncertainty as to their objective” (A Vauthier).
The radius of action for an orbiting satellite is vast compared to that of an air platform operating within the atmosphere, and its objective and areas of interest unknown to an adversary. However, its trajectory is predictable and its operating height brings disadvantages as well as benefits. By the end of this course students will have an understanding of how ISR operations are conducted from space, how communications can be improved and how the electromagnetic spectrum can be exploited to inform and shape the terrestrial battlespace across all domains.
The course is aimed at personnel within the spheres of defence, commercial and government who require an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how space-based and space-enabled capabilities can support and benefit electronic warfare and intelligence, situational awareness and reconnaissance activities.
