Dave and Paul, from the RAF Flying Clubs’ Association’s Aerobatic Squad (RAFFCA AS) won a Bronze medal and 5th place in the Sports Class at the British Championships.
The Championships were held at Peterborough Conington airfield on 5th and 6th August, with each pilot in the Sports class making 4 competition flights. The first flight is a ‘known’ sequence which is published at the start of the season, but the remaining flights are ‘unknown’ having been given to the pilots as little as an hour before they fly the sequence with no practice allowed!
Paul and Dave were both competing in their first National championships, having received support from Inzpire to help them to develop through 2016. After a steady start, Paul’s flying improved with every flight and he moved up the leader board to an excellent 5th place in only his second competition in the Sports Class. Dave made a couple of errors in earlier flights but kept his head with a strong final flight to finish in the medals. Paul will spend the rest of the season consolidating this success in order to move up the rankings next season. Having medalled in every competition he has entered at Sports Class, Dave intends to move up to Intermediate for his next competition.
Congratulations to Paul and Dave!
