James Murray joins us having spent 12 years in the Royal Air Force, joining in 2012 as an aircraft technician before commissioning into the training cadre in 2019.
During James’ time as an aircraft technician, his first tour was on the Tornado GR4 with 15R Squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth. James was employed as an aircraft maintenance mechanic carrying out flight line taskings, and throughout this 2-year period he was involved in many exercises across the United States and Europe, most memorably in Utah. In 2014, James returned to DCAE Cosford to complete further trade training and qualify as an Aircraft Technician (Mechanical).
A posting to RAF Marham working in depth maintenance in General Systems Flight followed. Over the next four years, James worked alongside RAF and BAE Systems colleagues specialising in hydraulics, pneumatics, and fuel systems on the Tornado GR4 platform. This role consisted of carrying out inspections, fault diagnosis, depth maintenance and testing of all components. In addition, James delivered and managed training for all personnel in the bay maintenance environment. This included delivering team development and continuous professional development initiatives. It was during this tour that James realised his future lay within training.
In 2019, James attended RAF Cranwell and commissioned into the Personnel Training branch. On completion, he returned to RAF Marham as station training officer. James and his team were at the forefront of training, continuous improvement, and innovation to more than 1500 personnel. His biggest successes throughout this time were the transformation of the learning and development centre, providing training and professional development support to the F-35 Lightning Force, and the successful delivery of change projects during COVID-19. This included providing specialist training advice and consultancy for individual training, collective training, and human performance across RAF Marham.
James' last posting was to 24 Sqn, RAF Brize Norton to be the training specialist advisor for the C-17 Globemaster Fleet. It’s here that James developed his training knowledge and experience through the management of an aircrew training system. This included providing training expertise and consultancy for a synthetic training contract. James also provided training support to Envoy and the Voyager Force.
Outside of work, James lives with his wife, his two little boys and his mad border collie. If there is any time left over in the day, James loves to unwind playing golf, watching football, and walking his dog on the beach.
Great to have you on the team, James.
