Bob joins our Collective Training Division as an Air-to-Surface SME
Bob joined the Royal Air Force in 1987 and trained as a Tornado GR Navigator. He qualified as both an Electronic Warfare and Navigation instructor, and completed several tours, both on the Front Line on Operations, and also in the Trials, Tactics and Training Environments with the Fast Jet & Weapons OEU and the Air Warfare Centre.
After 21 years, he retired from the Air Force and, having always had an interest in computers, joined BAe Systems as the Typhoon Simulator’s Synthetic Environment Specialist at RAF Coningsby. Working closely with the Front Line pilots, Bob oversaw the advancement of the ASTA simulatorr during Operations in Libya, resulting in his first BAe Systems Chairman’s award at Gold; the 2012 Olympics; development of the North America and Falklands Databases; and a first delve into Distributed Training for the Typhoon Force, garnering him his second Chairman’s award, at Silver.
After 8 years of working within the International ASTA community, Bob was invited to Manching in Bavaria to work directly for Eurofighter in the development of the ASTA software. Initially specialising in the DASS and EW arenas, he soon took on additional responsibility for the Litening pod, Database Generation and Lesson Planning.
With the demise of ASTA for the Royal Air Force, Bob was then invited by Airbus to continue his work for the new German/Spanish PSTS sim. Based on the original ASTA, the primary aim was to build and develop PSTS into a much more sophisticated simulation tool, particularly in the areas of CGF behaviour and future EW concepts such as AESA radar and specialised countermeasures.
After 3 years in Germany, the opportunity to return to the UK and continue working in the distributed training environment for Inzpire arose. Bob and his wife, Ann, moved back into their Lincolnshire cottage and are eagerly waiting for the Coronavirus restrictions to pass, so that life and the exciting new opportunities within Inzpire can be embraced fully.
Welcome to the Inzpire family, Bob!
