A warm welcome to Joanne Matthews who joins our team as a senior business assurance and improvement officer.
Jo joined the RAF in 1988 as an aerospace systems operator. After completing basic training at RAF Hereford and trade training at RAF West Drayton, Jo served at various TG12 sites around the UK and completed two tours of the Falklands Islands. Her final position was in software configuration management at the Software Development Centre Bentley Priory; her first introduction to the world of ‘Quality’.
During her 12 years of service, Jo took full advantage of the military adventurous training opportunities, completing several tri-service sailing expeditions, including an Atlantic Ocean crossing; completing the tri-service parachute course; learning to Ski; and taking part in several walking expeditions.
After leaving the RAF, Jo joined her husband in Belgium and worked as a NATO civilian in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) for a couple of years before returning to the UK and serving as an MoD Civil Servant for 15 years. During this time she worked at several RAF stations in various roles including HR, Training Support and Service Complaints. Jo finally returned to the world of ‘Quality’ in her final Civil Service position with the Sentry Software Support Team.
Upon leaving the Civil Service, Jo joined the Northrop Grumman Sentry Maintenance programme as a member of the Business Assurance team. This position demanded a collaborative approach to successfully assure the business, the customer and manage onsite subcontractors. On the demise of the Sentry aircraft she moved to another programme area of Northrop Grumman to continue developing her assurance knowledge.
Since leaving Northrop Grumman, Jo gained experience in product quality principles in a local Linde organisation before returning to a business assurance role with MASS.
Jo lives in the Lincoln area with her husband of 24 years; they have two grown-up children with the youngest planning to begin university in September. In her free time she likes walking, recently completing Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike, and year-round open water swimming. Jo and her family are also active Lincoln City football supporters and enjoy spending time socialising with friends.
