Rich joins our Technical Services Division as a systems engineer, having previously worked as a subject matter expert (SME) in complex weapons requirements and acceptance in the MOD.
Following graduation in 2008 from the University of Wales, Swansea with a Batchelors degree in English, Rich took up a variety of systems engineering and training roles in the automotive sector prior to moving into defence. His first appointment with the Lightweight and Medium Attack Systems (LMAS) delivery team in 2015 entailed the development of the User Acceptance Case Report in support of the Brimstone 2 missiles Initial Operating Capability (IOC) on Tornado GR4.
Based in the Weapons Operating Centre at Abbey Wood, Rich joined the MOD from consultancy in 2018 as requirements engineer, conducting systems engineering activities across the air-to-surface and air-to-air complex weapon portfolio.
Throughout his time in the MOD, Rich was tasked with delivering User Acceptance of the Martlet and Sea Venom missiles through to IOC on the Wildcat HMA2 platform. Thus, enabling the Royal Navy to declare an operational anti-surface warfare capability in support of the deployments of Carrier Strike Group 21. His other achievements include the acceptance of the SPEAR 4 and ASRAAM Block 6 weapon systems, providing continuity of air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities to the Typhoon Force.
He assumed the role of SME in complex weapons requirements and acceptance within the Weapons Operating Centre in 2020, providing User Acceptance support and guidance to the LMAS, Long Range Precision Strike and Air-to-Air Missiles delivery teams.
Rich has also recently completed a master’s degree in Systems Engineering in Defence Capability at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham. He currently lives in Warwickshire with his wife Rebecca and his interests include clay pigeon shooting, paddleboarding and striving to create the perfect BBQ smoked brisket!
