Stew has joined our team as the Air Warfare Centre’s Air-Land Integration Subject Matter Expert.
Stew started his Army career in March 1995 as an RAC Reconnaissance Crewman. On completion of basic and Phase 2 Training, Stew deployed on his first tour of Bosnia; he completed two tours of Bosnia and further deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan during his 22 years of service.
Stew entered the Air Land Integration environment in 2006 in preparation for his first tour of Afghanistan. He was then deployed as one of Nine Forward Air Controllers in Helmand Province, where he conducted countless missions on the frontline. Stew returned to Regimental Duty after 7 months in Theatre before retraining in 2011 for his second tour. On completion of 9 months as TACP 2i/c, Stew returned to the UK and was quickly posted to the Joint Forward Air Controller Training and Standardisation Unit. Initially instructing on the basic Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) course, Stew took on the role of Simulation Manager seeing in the UK’s first Immersive Simulator.
Towards the end of his Army career, Stew filled the role of Chief Instructor on the Basic JTAC course before finishing his career with a final 2 year posting as Chief Instructor of Advanced Training on the TACP and JTAC-I courses.
