We’re pleased to welcome Simon Walker to the team as a Tac C2 and data links expert.
Si joined the RAF in 1985, straight from school, as an aerospace systems operator. His first posting was to RAF Boulmer where he was part of the operations team responsible for the 24/7 policing of UK airspace. Postings followed to Air Defence Units at RAF Staxton Wold, North Yorkshire, and Saxa Vord in the Shetland Islands. After this, he returned to Yorkshire, with a posting to RAF Fylingdales where he worked in the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System “Pyramid” as a space surveillance and missile warning operator.
Volunteering to work overseas, a short tour at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons Belgium followed, working in the Joint Operations Centre which was mainly supporting Stabilisation Force operations in Croatia and Kosovo. A further tour in Air Defence at RAF Neatishead, Norfolk, brought him back to the UK, where for much of his time he was a data links manager.
Selected for airborne duties, Si completed the Sentry E3-D Operational Conversion Course in August 2004, graduating in the roles of surveillance and electronic support measures operator. During his time on the Sentry aircraft, he served on 8, 23, 54 and 56 Squadrons, advancing to the role of surveillance controller. He flew on operations throughout the Middle East and in the Caribbean and completed missions supporting NATO in both the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
Si has also deployed to a variety of diverse world-wide locations in support of exercises and defence diplomacy including the Falkland Islands, Australia, India, Malaysia, Hawaii and Chile.
Latterly, he was part of the team that designed and delivered a bespoke training package to the Chilean Air Force following the defence sale of two E-3D aircraft. His last RAF role was providing data link expertise to the RAF E-7 Wedgetail program.
Si lives with his partner, Angela, in Lincoln. Most of his spare time is taken up assisting Angela with their three horses and supporting her at various events throughout the county. He also likes to keep himself fit and is a keen runner.
A warm welcome to the Inzpire family, Si!
