We are delighted to welcome Derek 'Del' Lambert to the Inzpire family.
Del will be the lead in the Project Management Office as part of the Joint Electromagnetic Activity Design Innovation and will work in our technical services operational business unit.
Del joined the RAF in 1983 as an aerospace systems operator working in an underground bunker as part of the air defence of the UK at RAF Neatishead. Here, Del was involved in multiple NATO live flying exercises defending the UK mainland.
He then completed a tour at an EW range not far from RAF Gutersloh in Germany; whilst serving here Del's major achievement was readying crews for Gulf War 1, preparing them to operate in an EW environment.
Del returned to the UK and qualified as a fighter controller. He was then posted to RAF Waddington in 1998 as a weapons controller. During his time at RAF Waddington, Del amassed over 5,000 hours flying on the E-3D and was involved in many operations and plenty of oversea exercises.
In his role as weapons controller Del also flew the first RAF AWACS mission over Afghanistan as part of the response to the 9/11 attack. Del was selected as a mission commander on board the aircraft and spent 10 years as a tactical director leading crews on several operations and exercises, forming strong ties with coalition partners in several places across the world.
Throughout his time at RAF Waddington Del also had a period successfully delivering OCU training for those joining the AWACS fleet, teaching and mentoring others to become mission commanders which he really enjoyed.
Del was involved in the partnership for peace exercises, project managing the E-3D commitment to Bulgaria operating with 20+ other nations, in which he learnt vast amounts - face-to-face - about how countries outside of NATO organise their military.
As a graduate of the QWI ISR course Del returned to 8 Sqn to give others the benefit of his new found knowledge before selection to teach the QWI course. Requested to support a number of exercises both domestically and overseas, including Red Flag, Del has mentored a number of students in the delivery of ISR tasking.
Married with three children, Del enjoys walking, kickboxing, trying to play the guitar and spends plenty of time in his additional role of ‘Dad's Taxi’!
Welcome to the team, Del!
