It is our pleasure to welcome Neil Winbolt to our Training Services Division as a principal training consultant.
Neil left full time education in 1997 with an HND in Aerospace Engineering and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. Following a short stint at BAE Warton working on the Tornado F3 Capability Sustainment Programme he achieved his childhood dream and joined the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm as an Officer Cadet and trainee pilot in January 1998. Despite flying through Officer Training at BRNC Dartmouth and ultimately bagging some hours on some exciting and iconic aircraft, such as the Hawk TMk1, Sea Harrier T8, Sea King Mk4 and lots in-between, Neil ran out of talent quicker than he would have liked and his flying career was cut shorter than planned! It turned out his true talents lay in the leadership, management and development of the Royal Navy's most important asset - its people.
Neil transferred to the Training Management specialisation in the Royal Navy (RN) and subsequently enjoyed a career as an RN Training Officer. He has held various SO3 and SO2 roles across the RN training domain, with career highlights including an Operational Tour on HMS ARK ROYAL during Operation Telic, global deployment on over 12 operational warships during a 3 year spell as a Fleet Education and Development Officer and on behalf of Flag Officer Sea Training, assuring and approving the Training Line of Development for all new Naval Capability such as the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers and Wildcat helicopters.
Leaving the RN in 2013 Neil has enjoyed translating his military expertise into a successful civilian career as a Management Consultant specialising in Business Change and Learning and Development. He has worked for IBM, KPMG and his own Ltd company leading the people work-stream on some multi-million pound cyber and digital transformation projects, predominantly in the National Security and Intelligence Sector. In late 2019 he returned to his first love - aviation and joined the Civil Aviation Authority to run the UK's General Aviation Change Programme. Leading and navigating the programme through the choppy waters of EU Exit and a global pandemic (and the huge impact on aviation) he left everything ship-shape before joining Inzpire as a Principal Training Consultant in January 2022.
Neil is married to Jen and they live in a cottage in the “sticks”, a stone’s throw from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, with their two children Lucy (10) and Ben (9). Neil coaches the local youth football team and to stay sane enjoys taking friends and family flying with his pilot’s license (they haven't sussed out the lack of talent... yet). Passionate about the mountains (which Kent is famed for) he also hikes and skis whenever time allows.
Welcome to Inzpire, Neil!
