Inzpire Limited’s Helicopter Services Division is working hand-in-hand with the European Defence Agency (EDA) to increase helicopter operational capability across participating member states in order to reduce the shortfall in available rotary support experienced during recent international operations.
The EDA identified that despite rotary assets being considered crucial to modern crisis operations, there has been a shortage of vital helicopter support. The EDA has attributed this to 3 key areas; a lack of training, a lack of technical equipment for aircraft and the difficulties associated with logistical support to deployed operations.
With a focus on training to overcome this shortfall, the EDA have developed and now provide a number of individual and interlinked projects including multinational exercises, an annual symposium, tactical synthetic training courses, ‘train the trainer’ helicopter instructor training, electronic warfare and composite air operations courses.
In January 2018, Inzpire was awarded a contract to support the EDA in the delivery of these training programs, with the primary focus on the Helicopter Tactics Course (HTC). The delivery of the first Inzpire-led HTC was successfully completed in April, at Royal Air Force Linton on Ouse. The three-week course was attended by MI-24 (Hind), MI-17 (Hip), EC-135 and EC-145 crews from the Czech Republic and Germany, with students learning through a combination of both classroom-based theory and practical simulator exercises.
The first week of the helicopter tactics training includes theoretical studies on mission planning, electronic warfare, defensive aid systems, battlespace management and combat search and rescue. During the second and third weeks, crews are taught how to put these lessons into practice by flying a series of operationally-focused sorties in virtual battlespace simulators under the guidance of Inzpire staff.
The EDA programmes continue for the remainder of 2018 with Inzpire delivering a further 4 HTC’s and supporting the Helicopter Tactics Instructors Course in August and September. Rotary experts from the company will aid the delivery of the 4-week ground school and simulator phase in the UK, prior to the live flying element conducted in Sweden. In addition, Inzpire will deliver a 2-week electronic warfare course to participating member states in December.
