Over 80% of our workforce are ex-military, so we embody the values and culture of our armed forces customers. All while celebrating the skills, experience and contribution brought by our colleagues who have a non-military background.

Supporting the Armed Forces and Veterans

We’ve been an Armed Forces Covenant signatory since January 2015, and in 2019 we were awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award. We’re delighted to:

offer a guaranteed interview scheme to service leavers, reservists and military spouses or partners (including those of service leavers) who meet all our advertised requirements;
provide 15 days paid additional leave for reservists;
advocate support to the armed forces community;
offer help, guidance and best practice to any local employers who would like to
employ ex-military personnel.

Flexible-working Policies

We offer truly flexible working arrangements and have a range of initiatives in place based on trusting our people to work within a broad framework, so they can be most productive. Many of our colleagues flex the hours they work to accommodate commitments such as school drop-offs, exercising at lunchtime or just enjoying a walk on a sunny day.

We recently acted on employee feedback suggesting that improving our maternity and sickness offerings would make us an even more attractive employer. Our company maternity pay was uplifted to 18 weeks of full pay. Company sick pay is 12 weeks full pay followed by 12 weeks half pay in any 12-month period.

Health and Wellbeing Support

We know the workplace can play a positive role in enhancing overall wellbeing. We’ve introduced a range of health and wellbeing initiatives to look after our people, including:

private medical insurance (BUPA) and private dental insurance (Denplan), which is available to all employees from day one, without a policy excess;
ensuring we have a team of trained mental health first aiders (nearly 30 at last count) to be a first point of contact, in absolute confidence, for any employee who may be experiencing emotional distress or a mental health issue;
providing subscriptions to Anxiety UK;
direct access to mental health support via BUPA membership;
organising worktime wellbeing events and activities for staff to enjoy without the need to make up the time.

Professional Development

We recognise that individuals learn in different ways, at different paces and at different times; so, we offer opportunities through professional qualifications, internal and external courses, apprenticeships, and self-directed study. Professional development helps our people to enhance their knowledge and skills in their current role, and to prepare for internal opportunities and promotion within the business.

Learning is accessible across the business, and we currently have staff undertaking a range of training right up to master’s degrees in engineering.

We’re keen to nurture the growth of those starting out in their careers too. We have graduates and apprentices within our team who are developing through new experiences and access to rewarding professional opportunities. This helps us to diversify and brings fresh thinking to the way we work.

Awards

We’ve picked up many amazing awards over the years for innovation and our business culture. We were delighted to be recognised as Employer of the Year in the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2023. The year before that we won the Best Companies Wellbeing Award and ranked at number 9 in the UK’s best large companies to work for list. We also achieved a ‘Best Companies 3 Star Accreditation’ and a rating of ‘world-class’ for our employee engagement for the eighth year in a row.

In 2021, we were honoured with a second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, for our next-generation GECO military mission planning system.

From my first day I have been impressed by the way Inzpire treats its employees. From joining four years ago as a field services representative and subsequently working within business development, I have recently taken up the role of head of Helicopter Services Division. Throughout my journey I have been encouraged and supported by both my peers and superiors to develop professionally.

I started at Inzpire with relatively little work experience, and I was worried this may hold me back or that I’d be given the ‘boring’ jobs to do! But I was proved wrong. My manager has always trusted me to make my own decisions, to lead with projects, and to manage my own time. There’s no typical week for me, and whether it be a week with two or three days at head office, or none at all while I ply my work elsewhere in the UK and abroad, Inzpire is a company that recognises the importance of looking after its people, while ensuring outstanding delivery to its customers. And there’s a good mix of working from home for me too, which is very reassuring to my family…after all, I did leave the service to spend less time away!
