Background: The RAF Gladiator programme

Based at the Air Battlespace Training Centre (ABTC) at RAF Waddington, Gladiator is the Royal Air Force’s state-of-the-art synthetic training system, designed to enhance operational readiness by integrating multiple simulators into a single, secure training environment.

Acting as a central hub, Gladiator enables seamless collaboration across air, land, maritime and space domains, allowing UK forces to train alongside coalition and NATO partners worldwide. Using commercially available off-the-shelf technology and advanced cross-domain security, it provides a realistic and adaptable training experience tailored to specific operational needs.

By blending live, virtual, and constructive training, Gladiator improves effectiveness while reducing the costs and constraints associated with live flying.

Inzpire’s role: supporting Gladiator since 2021

At the heart of Gladiator’s success is Inzpire’s White Force, a team of elite military subject matter experts drawn from the Royal Air Force, British Army, and Royal Navy. Embedded at the ABTC with their military and defence colleagues, our specialists bring deep operational experience in areas such as combat air; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; remotely piloted air systems; space; cyber; and tactical datalinks. Within Gladiator, they play a crucial role in designing, planning, executing and debriefing complex synthetic training missions, ensuring that every exercise is both realistic and effective.

How does Inzpire add value?

Leveraging their expert knowledge of adversary capabilities and tactics, our White Force specialists create highly detailed and immersive scenarios that accurately represent potential threats, enabling military personnel to train against realistic opposition. They continuously adapt the complexity and pace of exercises in real time, ensuring training objectives are met and operational effectiveness is maximised. By overcoming real-world constraints such as emission control and communication security, they provide an environment where forces can train with full capabilities, preparing them for the challenges of modern warfare.

Through their expertise and real-time adaptability, Inzpire’s White Force ensures that Gladiator remains a cutting-edge training solution, providing UK forces with the knowledge, skills and confidence to operate successfully in a rapidly evolving battlespace.

BAMBOO EAGLE: a recent exercise

BAMBOO EAGLE is a multi-domain training exercise in the United States which has run three times since 2024. Integrating with coalition partners, the Gladiator system runs alongside live training, with our White Force connecting to the US synthetic environment from the ABTC, as well as deploying to the US, to support the exercise.

The ABTC team injects constructive entities to stimulate Operational Command and Control (OpC2), providing a representative challenge for the training audience, in a 24/7 environment. The blend of live and constructive entities is essential for OpC2 to achieve the scale of combat needed to accurately test their performance.

To support the live training audience, our White Force act as a central point, facilitating communications between RAF trainees and coalition OpC2 personnel to deliver wider training objectives.

BAMBOO EAGLE is a pinnacle exercise for the United States Air Force and we have played a significant role in enabling the RAF’s participation.

Inzpire personnel continue to add enormous value and experience, without which the Operations & Training Division would not be able to meet the outputs required by the RAF and Defence. They can always be relied upon to be flexible to meet changing task requirements and demonstrate clear personal pride in achieving a consistently high standard of output. “The output from the whole Inzpire team cross the Operations & Training Division has been exceptional.”
