On the evening of Wednesday 9th October, a group of Inzpire team members got together virtually to try their hand to some baking – all in the name of a wonderful charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Organised by Alistair ‘Ster’ Howard, this year’s participants were challenged to bake some delicious chocolate brownies, and in return each donated to the charity.
Ster said: “Inzpire’s annual online Macmillan charity bake-off soared to new heights this year with the addition of esteemed international participants.
“Joining avid Inzpire bakers, experienced and novices alike, were representative bakers from Sweden, Belgium and Pakistan. In a hard-fought contest and in a return-of-the-brownie special, some amazing bakes were presented at the judging dial-in.
“Junior Baker of the year went to Emily and mum Rachel, International Baker of the Year went to Niclas with his tip-hat design featuring a Supermarine Spitfire, and Supreme Champion 2024 went to the dynamic baking duo, Al and Niamh.
“The often-hard fought contest for best novice was an easy choice for 2024, the wooden spoon award going to S-J and Evie, who oddly had to grill their brownies and then put them in the freezer to finish them off…. thereafter there seemed a reluctance to ease them from the tin!”
S-J Humphrey, winner of the coveted ‘Best Novice’ award, said:
“I always get involved in Ster's events because he always makes them fun, easy and inclusive for everyone and a great way to meet others inside (and outside) of Inzpire that you may not see often. The beauty of the bake off is you don't even have to leave the comfort of your own home on a cold October evening!
“And for the record, despite receiving the wooden spoon - our brownies were in fact, delicious!”
Andy Shaw, Finance Director, also took part. He said:
"It’s always a lot of fun with plenty of banter and even though we don’t know anything about baking, Ster makes it all very straightforward and enjoyable.
"It’s all for a great cause, plus there’s usually a fairly decent cake to eat at the end!"
