Life at Inzpire: A Field Service Representative

We recently caught up with Ollie Grayson, a Field Service Representative within our Mission Systems team, to learn more about his role. Here's what he had to share...

How did you get into the defence industry?

Having been an operator using multiple different mission planning platforms, I’ve always regarded GECO equipment to be the best! Its ease of use, intuitive nature and the gain to situational awareness it brings is unparalleled. Pairing that with Inzpire’s reputation as one of the best defence companies to work for, they were my first and only choice when choosing a new career after leaving the military.

Please tell us more about your role at Inzpire

I am a member of the Mission Systems’ user experience team as a Field Service Representative. My primary role is to support our customers through technical support, training and installation of equipment. I also have additional responsibilities, including the development of project training materials, testing equipment from an operator’s perspective and leaning into our products user interface. Having been a member of the equipment build team within Mission Systems prior to joining the user experience team, I also provide support to product development when required.

What’s the best part of the job?

Having been with Inzpire for little over two years now, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a plethora of exciting projects. Meeting the wonderful people that we supply our product to and teaching the operators to use it - developing them into competent users - has been incredibly rewarding.

I’m thankful that my desire to continue learning and developing hasn’t stopped. For example, I’ve gone from having a very limited knowledge of software engineering to being able to write the appropriate settings for a GECO network.

How does your background in the military help you to add value for our customers?

I initially joined the Royal Navy as an Aircraft Engineer before transferring to Commando Crewman in 2016/2017. Having worked in both roles and served for 12 years, this experience provided me with a great understanding of what the user requires - from both a supported and supporting role. This translates into the work I do, ensuring our software developers continue to ensure that our equipment is relative, sensible and usable in all dynamic situations.

What’s the team dynamic like within Mission Systems?

Brilliant! Honestly, I don’t think it could be better. The team is a dynamic blend of military and civilian counterparts - good banter, a solid work ethic and everyone is extremely passionate about what they do. I’ve met some of my best friends and some of the most intelligent, hard-working people at Inzpire.

How does life at Inzpire compare to your time in service, and how was the transition to a civilian career?

Inzpire offers me all of the aspects I valued most about military life. The variation of projects means that there is ample opportunity for experience, learning and travel. In terms of transferring from service life to Inzpire, it couldn’t have been a softer landing. With so many ex-forces within all areas of the workforce and leadership, Inzpire is very well set-up to receive service leavers.

What do you enjoy specifically about working at Inzpire?

I take the most pride and joy from knowing our product is used all around the world, supporting dynamic, fast-paced operations and providing increased mission capability and situational awareness to the crews using it.

Inzpire offers so much more than this though; hybrid working routines, travel and flexibility for a great work-life balance. Since being with Inzpire, I have the best work-life balance I’ve ever had, which allows me to be a more present in my day-to-day life whilst also advancing in a challenging, exciting and rewarding career.
