Mission Systems take on Dragon Boat Race for second year in a row

On Saturday 13th July, a team from Mission Systems once again took part in the Dragon Boat Race in honour of Bluebell Wood.

Bluebell Wood is an incredible charity that provides hospice care for terminally ill children and young adults, while also offering support to siblings and extended family. Inzpire personnel chose to support this charity in honour of team member Russ Windle, whose daughter Olivia sadly suffers from a progressive neurodegenerative disease called Juvenile Battens Disease.

Russ Windle, System Engineer in our Mission Systems Division, said:

“It was an early start for Team Inzpire for the journey to Manvers Lake, with most of the team travelling from Lincolnshire for what proved to be a long and fruitful day. Team spirits were high after last year’s second place, and it was great to see so many of the teams’ families had travelled to give their support - the atmosphere around the lake was buzzing.

“Thankfully, this year the weather was a lot better than last years if a little chillier and the racing was good, but the big takeaway for me was seeing all the teams and supporters encouraging each other - even if there was a hint of competitiveness and rivalry mixed in with friendly banter!”

“The whole day has so far raised over £33,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, an amazing amount that helps the hospice to offer the support and services to families like mine. My family and I are truly grateful that Team Inzpire gave up their free weekend during what is a very busy period for all to take part and contribute to that total.”

On 13th July, a team from Mission Systems once again took part in the Dragon Boat Race in honour of Bluebell Wood - a wonderful charity offering hospice care.

Here’s how events unfolded on the day

In heat 1, the team were the first boat over the line with a time of 1:09, leaving them approximately fifth fastest overall after all first heats had taken place.

In heat 2, they were again the first over the line, with a time of 1:06 – leaving them as the fifth fastest qualifier ahead of the semi-final stage.

For the semi-finals, the team lined up against the second fastest and seventh fastest qualifiers in a three-boat race – with only the first boat past the line qualifying for the final so stakes were high. We’re pleased to announce that Team Inzpire DID cross the line first in their best performance of the day, with an impressive time of 1:04.

Then, it was time for the all-important finals. Once again, the final was contested by the three same teams as the year before in 2023. Unfortunately for our team, it ended the same way too – with Team Inzpire finishing second to the team from Rotherham Cross Fit Gym.

Nonetheless, it was a fantastic effort by all. So far, Team Inzpire has raised an incredible £2,330. If you’d like to sponsor them, there’s still time! Head to their page to donate: https://bluebellwoodchildrenshospice.enthuse.com/pf/russell-windle-0695f
