Recruitment Specialist Rachel Lobban joined Inzpire soon after graduating from university. To mark National Careers Week 2023, she shares her own experience of job hunting to help young people starting out in their career.
When I first started looking for a job, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I looked for roles that matched the university module I most enjoyed, and that was human resources.
I came across the recruitment and onboarding assistant role at Inzpire on Indeed. I didn’t have all the required experience but after researching the company and learning about their culture and benefits, I was keen to get onboard.
Before applying, I mapped my skills and experience against the job advert to see where there was a match and to identify any areas that would need improvement. I used my covering letter to explain why and how I would be a good fit and to share my enthusiasm for building on the areas where I wasn’t as experienced. It did the trick, and I was so happy to be offered an interview and then the job!
Continuous learning is a big priority for me, and so I wanted to find a company that would support my career progression goals by offering continuous professional development. Thankfully Inzpire ticked that box. Within a year of being their recruitment and onboarding assistant I was promoted to recruitment specialist. I was also signed up to do a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) People Management Level 5 course, which allowed me to continue my development whilst applying my knowledge to the workplace. It also granted me membership to the CIPD which is funded by Inzpire.
Therefore, my top tip for young people starting out in their career is don’t be afraid to apply even if you don’t have 100% of the required skills. In my role as recruitment specialist, I have seen that more times than not having the right attitude is more important than experience, as training and opportunities will be provided in the role.
We have lots of exctiting opportunities at Inzpire, so if you’d like to get your career off to an amazing start with us, join our talent pool and tell us why you’d make a great addition to the team.
