The awards, set up by the charity Heropreneurs, are held in association with The Telegraph and aim to celebrate the success and entrepreneurial spirit of ex-military businesspeople and their families.
The small employer of the year category recognises the success of businesses who employ between 5 and 200 employees and provide highly innovative engagement and employment policies for helping military veterans to transition from the military to civilian employment.
Against strong competition, Inzpire was victorious in the category and was praised for its innovative onboarding policies, support for reservists and support for military families in the workplace.
The company, which was founded in 2005 by three ex-RAF personnel, employs over 130 military veterans from all branches across the armed forces and has instigated a number of policies in the last two years to enhance the support it offers to the armed forces community.
In the last two years, Inzpire has provided over 20 civilian workplace attachments to personnel transitioning out of the military. These attachments provide personnel with the time to adjust to the civilian and commercial sectors before embarking on full-time roles once leaving the military. The also company provides personalised feedback to all members of the armed forces community who enquire about, or apply for a role. Whilst all employees are entitled to a minimum of 6 weeks’ annual leave, the company provides an additional paid leave of up to 15 days for serving reservists.
In addition to providing support for veteran employees, Inzpire’s dedication to the armed forces community also extends to military families and the company has introduced a guaranteed interview scheme for all applicants from the armed forces community, including military families and spouses, who meet their requirements.
Inzpire also runs a ‘keeping in touch’ scheme which provides children of deployed/mobilised reservist employees with a deployment book and a writing set to help them understand their current situation and to encourage them to communicate with their deployed parent.
Hugh Griffiths, Inzpire’s chief executive officer and one of the company’s founders, said: “Everyone at Inzpire is absolutely delighted with this award from the Heropreneurs organisation. We are military entrepreneurs and we try very hard to be a wonderful employer with strong military values and ethos. This award means a lot to us as 80% of our employees have military backgrounds and we have approximately 3000 years military experience in our team. We recognise that the credentials of military personnel makes them highly employable and their values - integrity, honesty, hard work and loyalty to name a few - make them exceptional employees”.
