UK military personnel will soon be undergoing enhanced space training by undertaking a series of courses redesigned by experts from across Inzpire Limited (Inzpire).
The courses have been enhanced in accordance with the findings of a nine-month-long training needs analysis which Inzpire conducted for UK Space Command in 2022. This process included in-depth evaluations of competency frameworks, which identified training requirements for specific job roles from which training gap analysis and training needs reports were produced.
Following the inauguration of UK Space Command in April 2021, there is an ever-increasing number of defence personnel working in the space domain, leading to more and more training requirements.
To reflect the rapidly evolving nature of the domain and the findings from the 2022 report, Inzpire have now been contracted through the Engineering Delivery Partnership to work with UK Space Command to take their existing courses through a full redesign process. The updated courses will align with the previously identified training objectives, which meet newly defined role and competency requirements.
In a project which will see the skills of Inzpire’s Space and Training Services Divisions combined, UK Space Command will receive redesigned intermediate and advanced space operations courses, as well as a brand-new Qualified Space Instructor Course, a Foundation Space Operations course and all of the associated up-to-date training products.
To ensure that the importance of the space domain is fully understood by those throughout defence, the Foundation Space Operations course has been designed for those working across the armed forces. The remaining courses have been built specially for space operators at all stages in their careers, from ab-initio operators right through to qualified space instructors; the result being updated and enhanced training for those across the breadth of the UK Space Command workforce.

Dan Simmons, Head of Collective Training Services Operational Business Unit said: “Winning this contract shows both the value of our operational space expertise, as well as highlighting the superb work our training services division carries out. We are delighted that we will be continuing our support to Space Command over the next two years.”
Rick Box, Head of Space Division, added: “Inzpire’s unique selling point is combining qualified and experienced training staff with suitably qualified and experienced ex-military space operators, some of whom have over 30 years space operations experience.
The ability for ex-military personnel, such as myself, to use the experiences they gained in the armed forces and ‘give back’ to UK defence in a contract like this, is both unique and a real pleasure.”
Tineke Brooks, Head of Training Services Division, commented: “It has been a pleasure to continue to support Space Command, by implementing some of the recommendations identified by our previous training needs analysis.
“It is incredibly rewarding to see the customer be able to extract so much value from the analysis conducted by the combined Inzpire Training Services and Space Division teams.”
