We are delighted to welcome Andy Winterbon to our collective training division as a maritime operations subject matter expert.
Andy joined the Royal Navy on a rainy Wednesday in 1999 and then proceeded to spend the next 12 years after Dartmouth in and out of Type 42 destroyers as a Fighter Controller, Principal Warfare Officer and latterly as the final Senior Warfare Officer and Anti-Air Warfare Officer of the very last Type 42, HMS Edinburgh. In addition to Type 42s, he has served in minehunters, aircraft carriers and on Joint Force Harrier with 800 Naval Air Squadron. He has deployed all over the world, from both arctic circles to Afghanistan, and completed more trips to the Middle East that he can recall.
After the years in the maritime air defence domain, he moved to staff assignments at Command UK Amphibious Forces, Commander UK Carrier Strike Group and the MoD where he has had a breadth of responsibilities from developing and delivering synthetic command and control training to co-ordinating the visit programmes of the senior staff at MoD, and has represented the UK as a staff liaison to both the Royal Saudi Navy Western Fleet HQ and also at the EUNAVFORMED HQ in Rome during the migrant crisis. Following departure from regular service, Andy is taking up a reserve role within the Navy’s 2* command staff in addition to his new role at Inzpire.
Andy lives in the South Lincolnshire countryside with his 2 spaniels, in an old house which continually tests his DIY skills. He is a keen cyclist, a woeful golfer and loves a day watching classic cars going round a race track or up a hill.
Welcome to the team Andy.
