We are delighted to welcome Chris Frow to our cyber team as a cyber exercise subject matter expert.
Chris joined the RAF in 1999 as an Avionics Technician and was posted to 51 Sqn RAF Waddington, working across both the Air Vehicle and Mission Systems desks for the Nimrod R1. During his time on 51 Sqn he enjoyed multiple detachments on both operations and exercises across the world.
Chris was accepted for his commission as an Engineering (Communications Electronics) Officer in 2008, where he completed the Basic Entry Scheme (BES) gaining his Degree in Engineering Management, before starting his first tour as OC C4i RAF Leeming in 2011.
Subsequent tours at No1 Air Control Centre (No1ACC) followed in 2012 as OC RAGE (Radar and General Engineering), and then in 2015 a move to Air Command A6 Capability Plans.
2016 saw Chris join the AWC Cyber Group in the newly established role of Cyber Exercise Planner. This saw him working on the development of cyber exercises and wider cyber concepts within RAF, UK military and other Government departments, as well as international and industry partners. He was also heavily involved in maturing and developing the RAF’s and MOD Cyber capability. He also managed the Cyber Range, managing a team of highly trained technicians to deliver cyber exercises and training. Chris delivered multiple exercises, training events and cyber briefs to UK and foreign military and civilian audiences.
Chris was promoted in 2018 and posted back to Air Command A6 Operation Plans as the Division’s desk lead for Strategic Plans and Policy, coordinating the HQ’s long-term effort in meeting the Defence Plan and Air Task Plan. He was also the Cyber Training Requirements Authority (TRA) desk officer, working on behalf of ACOS A6 in the development of cyber training, education and exercises for the RAF Cyber Operators and personnel. This work gave Chris a panoramic view of military cyber, working with the Air Cyber and Information Services Ops Centre (CyISOC), No1Radio School as well as with Jt Cyber, the Defence Cyber School and Partners Across Government.
Chris lives in Nottinghamshire with his wife Claire and three children, who enjoy getting out for walks and family bike rides. He enjoys rugby, no longer playing due to his advancing years but watching Leicester Tigers, as well trying to keep fit with some running, swimming and cycling.
Welcome to the family, Chris!
