Grant joins our Collective Training Division as an Air-to-Ground SME after an RAF career spanning almost 30 years.
Grant joined the RAF in 1989 as an Air Loadmaster serving on Wessex Support Helicopters in Northern Ireland and RAF Benson. Selected for Navigator training in 1993, Grant was commissioned in 1994 and selected to fly the Tornado GR1 after training. Following type conversion, Grant joined 14 Squadron, RAF Bruggen in 1996, serving on Operations WARDEN (Northern Iraq), JURAL (Southern Iraq), BOLTON (Southern Iraq), RESONATE SOUTH (Southern Iraq), and was awarded Mentioned in Dispatches on ENGADINE (Kosovo). Selected for the Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI) course in 2000, Grant joined XV Squadron as a Squadron QWI. Promoted to Squadron Leader in 2002, he served as UK Targets on operations, before returning to XV Squadron as an Air Checking Officer (Standards), prior to becoming 617 Squadron Weapons Leader and Executive Officer, which included Operation TELIC (Iraq) and many more Large Force Exercises around the globe. Following a staff tour in Whitehall, Grant commanded basic navigator training at RAF Linton-on-Ouse before another operational staff tour in 2011. He then served in Saudi Arabia before completing his final tour as an instructor at the Tactical Leadership Programme in Spain, completing nearly 30 years of service and almost 4,000 flying hours.
Grant enjoys a good adventure, especially if it involves trekking or scuba diving. A keen amateur artist, you will always find him seeking inspiration for his next painting!
