We are delighted to welcome Kev Scott to our Technical and Strategic Services team.
Kev joins us as an air commodities specialist having previously completed 38 years in the Royal Air Force.
Kev joined the RAF in 1984 as an airman in the aircraft propulsion trade. He was posted to RAF Coningsby, where he worked on Phantom and Tornado F3 aircraft. In 1996 he was posted to RAF Cosford as an instructor on line training flight educating all RAF aircraft technicians on the basic fundamentals of aircraft handling as well as the day-to-day maintenance requirements to maintain a safe and serviceable air vehicle.
Commissioned as an Aero Systems Engineer in 2005, Kev was posted to the Power Generation Group at RAF Wyton, responsible for the compilation of engine specific policy for the RAF engineering community. Additionally, he was the focal point for FOD issues within DE&S providing briefs and forums to pro-actively improve the Services ability to combat FOD. He was the posted to MODSAP in London as the Engineering Authority for the RB199 engine element of Tornado GR4 spares and sales to the Royal Saudi Air Force and proved pivotal in the award of a multi-million-pound contract for a new multi-engine test facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In 2009, Kev was posted to 51 Sqn as an engineering officer operating the ISTAR platform Nimrod R1. He conducted operations in numerous countries until the aircraft was retired in 2011, where he was appointed Project Officer for the disposal of the platforms to East Midlands aircraft museum and the Cosford Museum.
He then moved into the ISTAR Eng HQ to develop and build the new ISTAR CAMO Team in line with the MAA directive. He drafted 3 ISTAR Platform CAMEs for the Sentry, Sentinel and Shadow aircraft with an interface agreement with the civil Part M prior to moving onto a new post at MOD St Athan as Executive Officer on 71 (Inspect and Repair) Sqn.
During this tour Kev was also OC NDT covering a geographically located workforce in the timely delivery of NDT to MOD Fixed-wing platforms. Kev took it upon himself to change the direction of the NDT approach, by identifying and procuring a composite A400M to ensure the future of NDT and repair techniques were honed to meet future platform requirements. He was also singled out for the Project Lead for the relocation of 71(IR) Sqn from MOD St Athan to the A4 Force Element at RAF Wittering.
Posted to Air Commodities at DE&S Abbey Wood, Kev took control of numerous commodity items including Helicopter Underslung Load Equipment, aircraft fire extinguishers and aircraft tie down equipment for securing aircraft to decks during maritime operations. Kev quickly grasped the role requirements turning the team from a stove piped, purely functional and disparate organisation into a balanced matrix with all pulling in the same direction with common goals, vision and sense of pride.
Holding a LoAN and acknowledging Kev’s achievements, he was quickly elevated to cover as Deputy Head of Engineering within Air In-Service Support Team. On promotion Kev was moved to take on the role of Lightning II Training Systems Lead Engineer within the Delivery Team. There he ensured that the synthetic training devices maintained the correct configuration and software concurrency with the Air Vehicle.
Holding an LoAA, he dealt with numerous queries and faults associated with the various training systems, both operator and maintainer. He also ensured the smooth integration of the Deployed Mission Rehearsal Trainers onto the Queen Elizabeth and Price of Wales aircraft carriers. Throughout his Service career, Kev was awarded 5 Commendations for his approach, his work ethic and results achieved.
Kev lives with his wife Clare, daughter Catherine and Granddaughter Freya in Chepstow, with his son living only 4 miles away. Kev is a keen outdoor enthusiast, and as a qualified mountain leader organises numerous events throughout the year. He has supported the Ten Tors Event since 1997 and is due to be promoted to Chief Scrutineer for the Event next year.
As a STEM Ambassador and holding CEng and CMgr, he also enjoys supporting the youngsters of today in STEM events to broaden their understanding of opportunities in these exciting career choices and allowing Kev to pass on some of his knowledge in this decision process.
Kev also has hidden talents in the form of calligraphy and decoupage, although he has not exercised these skills for a number of years.
