We're delighted to welcome Paul Grimes to Inzpire as our new FCAS Crypto Requirements Manager, after 28 years' service in the RAF.
Originally from Wigan, Paul joined the RAF in 1996 as an Airframe (Rigger) Technician and gained experience working on Tornado GR4, on II(AC) Sqn; Tornado F3, on 11(F) Sqn; as well as short stints on Chinook, in the Falklands; and VC10 at RAF St Athan. During this time, he completed two out-of-area tours at Ali-Al-Salem Air Base in support of Air Ops Iraq.
During his time as a rigger, Paul reaching the dizzy heights of the rank of Junior Technician and, spending too much time covered in hydraulic oil, he decided to commission as a communications and electronics engineer officer. As an officer, he has worked within the C4I; electronic warfare; tactical data links; operational planning and training environments.
Additionally, he has undertaken several operational tours, including Afghanistan; gained an MSc in Guided Weapons Systems; and achieved Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology. The highlight of his career was his final tour as officer commanding cyberspace sqn, at RAF Marham, providing C5I and mission assurance support to F-35.
Paul decided to leave the RAF to spend more time with his family, and now lives in Nottingham with his wife, Lindsey, and son, Henry. In his spare time, he enjoys DIY (starting, not finishing) and is a keen golfer with which he has a love hate relationship! When not being an angry golfer, he spends the rest of his spare time supporting Liverpool FC and spending time with his wife and son.
