We’re delighted to welcome Andy Campbell to our team as a space subject matter expert following 26 years’ service in the Royal Air Force.
Andy joined the RAF in 1998 as an aerospace systems operator. After completing basic and trade training, he was posted into operations at CRC Neatishead. He went on to complete numerous tours, including E3D mission briefing at Waddington; working in a tri-service environment at JSSU Cyprus; as national representative assistant at RAF High Wycombe; and control and reporting centre operations at RAF Boulmer. Further deployments to CRC Griffin, Mount Alice at the Joint Operations Centre in the Falklands, and to Al Udeid, added to the breadth of experience he gained in a range of environments.
Andy’s last five years in service were spent in the space domain at the Space Assurance, Training, Test & Evaluation Unit (SATTEU), where he played a vital role in the unit’s growth from infancy and through training, exercises and operations with allied partners. After developing his knowledge, Andy worked as Senior Non-Commissioned Officer for the unit’s training section. He was responsible for instructing personnel and managing the training structure, forecast and delivery to enhance the reputation and output of the unit in its specialised area. He was recognised for his work at SATTEU with promotion to flight sergeant, taking on the role of FS operations, and was awarded a Cmdr UK Space Command Commendation in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
Andy was selected to represent the RAF for the Senior Representative Football Team (a long time ago), with a tour to South Africa being a particular highlight. He also represented the RAF Cyprus and Cyprus Combined Services football sides while posted there. More recently he has been playing veterans football for RAF Waddington. Adding to his sporting endeavours, Andy is a keen golfer, striving to lower his fairly high handicap. He has also completed three London Marathons, and although his marathon days are over, he still likes to go running to keep fit.
