Simon Storey comes to us as a warfare and data link expert following 26 years in the military.
Simon joined the Royal Navy in 1996 as an able seaman operator maintainer AB(OM), undertaking his initial training at HMS Dryad. On successful completion, he joined his first ship, HMS Cardiff. During his time on board, he undertook an intensive work-up package under Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST). This led to a six-month operational deployment to the Mediterranean to conduct NATO standard operations within the area, including those in anti-smuggling. The deployment saw him selected for promotion to leading hand (LH).
Simon then returned to HMS Dryad, undertaking his promotional course before joining HMS Southampton and deploying to the South Atlantic. During this time, the ship undertook joint operational tasking around the Falkland Islands. The deployment also included taking scientists to South Georgia to allow them to conduct important research on the effects of climate change.
Having received another promotion to petty officer, Simon’s career gained further momentum, with him taking up many different roles within his branch. This included a data link instructor role at HMS Collingwood, where he instructed the Navy’s new recruits into the Above Water Warfare Branch.
After receiving promotion in late 2015 to chief petty officer, Simon then joined the newest type of warship within the Royal Navy, the Type 45. This saw him serve on a further three Type 45s, conducting many operational deployments within the Gulf region. One of the many highlights in his career was a nine-month global defence engagement trip.
Towards the end of his service Simon moved to RAF High Wycombe as one of only two UK data link network designers, delivering complex networks for both exercise and real-world combat situations.
After a very fruitful military career and vast amounts of traveling the seas, Simon is excited to begin his new career with Inzpire, bringing his extensive knowledge of tactical data links to the team.
Simon is married to Emma (a teaching assistant) and has a teenage son who believes he knows best on all matters. In his spare time, Simon is a very keen golfer (1.0) and currently the captain of his club A team.
Great to have you with us Simon!
