New JoinersMaritime Division
We’re delighted to welcome John ‘Taff’ Newall, who joins us as a subject matter expert in maritime warfare operations after serving in the Royal Navy for 23 years.
Most recently he was the in-service capability manager for combat management systems (CMS) fitted in the LPD, T23, T45 and QEC platforms, and the branch specialist advisor to Navy Command for the Above-water Warfare Tactical (AWT) department.
Before his time at Navy Command, Taff undertook the second of two stints at Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST), where he was the head of the AWT Training Department, responsible for the delivery of operations room management; tactical picture compilation and dissemination; and Anti-Submarine Warfare Target Motion Analysis training to NATO maritime platforms.
Prior to FOST he was employed as the warfare junior-rate career manager supervisor for the eastern region of the Royal Navy. During this period, he managed human and training resources allocated to over 700 sailors and was the custodian of the training pipeline for all junior-rate warfare disciplines on behalf of the RN’s branch management.
Taff’s extensive seagoing career included two and a half years as the operations room manager onboard HMS Kent. His tenure spanned several periods undertaking various FOST packages and operational deployments in support of the Arabian Gulf, NATO’s Northern Flank and UK home waters.
Taff has also served onboard HMS Cumberland (The Fighting Sausage), HMS Norfolk, HMS Northumberland and his first ship HMS Argyll, and he was the CMS instructor within the AWT training element at the Maritime Composite Training System facility in MWS Collingwood.
Taff is married to Laura, and they have two children Arthur and Connie. Taff enjoyed a bang-average rugby career both in and out of the armed forces and now enjoys golf, cycling, walking, and watching as much sport as sanctioned by Laura.
Welcome aboard Taff, great to have you on the team!
